prof_servicesManaging Records and Information Management (RIM)

Effective Records and Information Management (RIM) is crucial to organizations by meeting corporate governance, risk management and operational mandates.
Yet many lack effective policies and procedures to create, control, manage, preserve and retrieve this information. In addition, organizations often waste valuable time searching for information when it is needed; risk severe penalties and loss of corporate reputation for non-compliance with records-related regulations and legal statutes; keep some records too long; spend too much for storage; and fail to protect mission-critical information from loss or destruction.
Companies typically utilize one of three methods in managing their records:

Method #1:  Bury Your Head in the Sand.

Doing nothing and continuing the status quo, merely continues the risk of severe penalties and negative outcomes to litigation. Not to mention the ability to recover lost or destroyed data in case of a disaster.

Method #2:  Arise, New Departments!

Establishing a records department may effectively help rein in an organization’s sea of both paper and electronic information. But this is a large investment that must be made and many organizations do not want or cannot undertake such expense.

Method #3:  But It’s Not My Job!

One of the most popular methods is to simply assign records management duties to existing employees. However, assuring proper enterprise-wide management of information and records is simply beyond the experience of most employees and increases burdens on already existing workloads.
